How to Find ✨YOUR✨ Rental Apartment? —Tips!
I’ve been receiving some DMs on HOW TO FIND AN APARTMENT so I’m back with more renting content if no one is too bored 🤣
Tip 01: Do you know what you’re looking for? —Narrow Down Your Search!
➡️ Locations/zones
Do you know which specific areas in Singapore you’re looking for? and why? Do you know what your needs are when it comes to looking for a property to live in for at least 2 years? Do you need to live near your workplace? These are important questions to help narrow down the areas you want to live in. Singapore is also split up into zones and you can use that as a frame of reference.
➡️ Types of Apartments
Are you interested in a shared rental space? Or a co-living space? Or a studio for yourself? Do you want to live in a HDB? Condo? Landed property? All these options affected the price range as well.
➡️ Your Price Range
If you’re looking to realistically find an apartment in one of the most expensive cities in Asia, how much are you willing to spend? You can browse the available listings to see what the range is like right now and see if you can afford it.
Also, be prepared to pay twice the rent amount at the beginning because you’ll have to pay a deposit and your first month of rent.
Tip 02: Sort your search on propertyguru.com or 99.co
There are tons of listings online—both new and old. Using your narrowed-down options, you then can use the property websites more efficiently.
➡️ Sort your searches by “newest” or “recently added” because rentals move pretty fast. Don’t waste your time replying to those that have been up longer than a few months, most likely the agent forgot to take them down.
Tip 03: Use Filters on propertyguru.com or 99.co
➡️ Filter your searches to your narrowed down locations, size and price range Agents don’t entertain every single reply, they only start the conversations with the first few queries and set up the viewings, and most likely those people will say yes. You want to narrow down your search to fewer locations so that you can sieve through the website easily and not be overwhelmed with listings or waste your time looking at ones you’ll never consider.
Tip 04: Do your research BEFORE the viewing.
➡️ Visit your Dream Locations—Take it as Research or Manifestation
How would you know if you could live in that area for about 2 years when you haven’t been there. Go visit! Do you like what you see? There is not much thinking time after viewing. After the viewing, it’s either a yes or a no, and the next person viewing after you would most probably take it.
Tip 05: Be Patient—It’s About Timing ⏰
➡️ It’s not while stocks last. Searching and viewings can be really fun so enjoy that for a moment too. When your perfect comes around, you’ll be more than ready to move in. Don’t rush into an apartment just because you think it’s cheap or affordable, something better might just be available. So be patient about it and go back to TIP 01, go find out what you want first.
I hope that helps with your search for your next perfect apartment. I had the chance to live in 2 beautiful apartments in Singapore; a condo in Dhoby Ghaut and a shophouse in Katong. I have now moved out too and I’m excited for my next adventures.
