If You’re Feeling Lost, Read This: The Alchemist 🪄
Book Title: The Alchemist
Author: Paulo Coelho
Length: Short
Difficulty: Easy
I’m back with another book recommendation 📕 This time it’s a short read that has the prettiest cover ever. It was first published in 1988 so there are many covers out there in bookstores but 25th anniversary edition.
📖 What is this book about?
The book follows a young shepherd’s journey to find treasure—his purpose in life. With barely anything on him, he began his journey. He meets new people, have new experiences and hard times. He learns to follow his heart and see the omens and signs from the universe.
❤️ What I love about this book?
It reminds us that our life purpose is experience. Just like travelling, it’s not about the goal. Just like travelling, it’s not about the end goal. If your goal was to go to another country and then come back home, why leave when you’re already home. Why watch a movie when you can just read about the ending? I love that the book is a self-help book weaved into a magical story.
This book also reminds us to keep dreaming. Don’t get too down when things get difficult. It’s the learning that we are after, not the result. It’ll all make sense later.
We are constantly stressing over our next move or big break that sometimes we forget to live in the moment. I love how the boy in the book follows one action at a time and goes through it with faith that it will lead him to his goal eventually.
✨ Favourite Quotes from the book:
“When you want something, all of the universe conspires to help you achieve it.” ”You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it is better to listen to what it has to say.”
“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.”
“There is only one way to learn. It’s through action. Everything you need to know you have learned through your journey.”
“Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.”
“It is the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
“You can become blind by seeing each day as a similar one. Each day is a different one, each day brings a miracle of its own. It’s just a matter of paying attention to this miracle.”
“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
